Goethe Institut Hosts Stable Genius
Dec 2022
Goethe Institut Sofia hosted Alexander Manuiloff's latest performance, Stable Genius.
Stable Genius is directed by Milena Stanojevich. The actors are Emilia Toncheva and Yavor Kostov-Yondin, while each evening a different guest-actor will take the leading role: Valentin Ganev, Vessela Kazakova, and Iva Todorova.
The performance is on the border between classical and experimental theatre, and the goal is to involve the audience in reflections on global topics such as censorship and self-censorship, growing chauvinism, homophobia and racism, as well as the increasingly hardened isolationism and lack of acceptance towards everything that is different and foreign.
What is unusual in this case is that the guest actors enter the performance without having a prior idea of the text and what is coming up on stage.
The text by Alexander Manuilov was created in 2020 during a creative residency at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart. It was nominated for the dramaturgy awards at the "New Bulgarian Drama" festival in Shumen, 2020-2021. It will be presented to the audience for the first time at the Goethe-Institut Sofia.
