"The State" Tours India: Calcutta and Kerala

March 5, 2017

Dear friends,

in January 2017, the performance "The State" was cordially welcomed in Kolkata (Calcutta), India,

as part of the alternative Kolkata International Performance Art Festival KIPAF 2017,

together with productions by artists from Hungary, Slovakia, Denmark, Italy, India. Finland, Russia, Tanzania and China.

The performance was hosted in the Gosh mansion, once frequented by famous musicians but also by Rabindranath Tagore himself.

More information about the mansion is available here.

In February, "The State" was selected as part of one of India's most significant international theatre forums,  the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFOK 2017).

The text material for the performance was translated into the local language, Malayalam, and the event provoked an intense response from audiences and media,

while author, Alexander Manuiloff, was invited to take part in lecturing and discussion panels together with some of the most prominent theatre makers and intellectuals of India and the region, such as Prof. Kirti Jain, Dr Shiv Visvanathan, Aubrey Mellor, Prof. Anuradha Kapur, Dr TT Sreekumar and some others.

The press called "The State":  „one of the most mind-numbing experiences for spectators who suddenly cease to be mere spectators" and

„ a theatre experience they have never encountered.“ (Deccan Chronicle)
